Position Summary:

Under general supervision of the Senior Nutrition Director or a higher-level administrator, assists with operating and managing a Senior Nutrition Program and leads the program in the absence of the Site Manager. This supervisory position involves responsibility for efficient distribution and serving of meals to seniors. Supervises a team of Food Service helpers, drivers and volunteer workers. Maintains records and reports as required by The Salvation Army and San Diego County, attends meetings as required, publicizes programs and services.

Essential Functions:

  1. Maintain accurate records, including but not limited to menu planning, meal programming, purchasing and provide monthly reports to administration.
  2. Maintain the contractual trainings of employees and volunteers as assigned.
  3. Be available to manage staff and site operations in the absence of a site manager.
  4. Assist in the collection and organization of monthly reports for submittal to contract agencies.
  5. Maintain record updates in government database.
  6. Conduct the monthly Exclusion/Debarment reports.
  7. Assist in collecting inventory of all equipment at sites.
  8. Attend Site Manager’s monthly meetings.
  9. Collect the monthly order of meals and related supplies from site managers. Estimates and orders appropriate quantities of food items, prepackaged prepared foods and supplies from central production kitchen and external vendors.
  10. Works with Director to promote Senior Nutrition program to seniors in the communities served.
  11. Regularly interacts with seniors, other employees and members of the public.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent, plus two years of supervisory experience in a related field.
  2. Experience working with the elderly, preferred.
  3. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  4. Must be able to read, write and communicate well in English.
  5. Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
  6. Have or be able to obtain a Food Service Certificate and must be able to understand and follow all Health Food Codes.
  7. Before hire, submit a copy of DMV driving record with less than two (2) violations (moving or accident) in the last twelve months. Before hire, must pass Fleet Test of The Salvation Army. Certification by and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Program, annually, is required. May not obtain more than two (2) violations, moving or accident, in one year. Salvation Army Fleet Policy dictates those persons no longer meeting the qualifications of this position if more than (2) violations in a 12-month period accrue to their DMV Driving Record will be terminated

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  1. Be proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  2. Ability to work with various ethnic and socio-economic populations.
  3. Ability to maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
  4. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of basic supervisory principles, safety practices and procedures and inventory and supply practices.
  5. Ability to perform multiple technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
  6. Ability to be a team player and demonstrate a positive attitude while working in a fast-paced environment to maintain poise under pressure.
  7. Ability to assist with emergencies in a calm and effective manner.
