About Kitchens for Good: Kitchens for Good is a 501(c)3 organization that uses food to transform lives and nourish communities.  Through our apprenticeship programs, we provide individuals with culinary and hospitality training and equip them with the skills needed to break the cycle of poverty and launch meaningful careers in the culinary industry. Our apprentices — transitioning from incarceration, homelessness, and foster-care — hone their culinary skills while fighting food waste and food insecurity by upcycling rescued food from wholesalers and farmers into scratch-made meals for hungry San Diegans.

Position Summary:

Kitchens for Good (KFG) is seeking an experienced Marketing and Communications Manager to raise awareness and engagement with our mission, events, and enterprises. This role is responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations strategy that will enhance the Kitchens for Good’s image and position among its stakeholders and the general public and facilitate internal and external communications. The Communications Manager will report to the Senior Director and lead the day-to-day strategic communications, including media relations, digital platforms and digital fundraising, social media, email marketing, advertising, and print collateral.

The right candidate is a natural storyteller who understands how to weave data, anecdotes, testimonials into compelling messaging and engaging content for different mediums. We’re looking for someone with experience across traditional PR, digital communications, and print content who understands how to reach stakeholders across many platforms.

Essential Functions:

    • Develop and execute communications and content plans that engage various audiences in KFG’s mission, events, and enterprises using various channels (email marketing, social media, press, newsletters, direct mail, website).
    • Create and execute a marketing strategy for KFG’s new enterprise initiatives to acquire and engage customers using advertising, email marketing, PR, brand partnerships, and SEO.
    • Lead content strategy that showcases our mission and impact, including writing and editing newsletters, direct mail campaigns, annual reports, email marketing, flyers, website content, and press releases.
    • Manage Public Relations by drafting messaging calendar and serve as media liaison coordinating press opportunities with staff and apprentices.
    • Develop and manage KFG’s brand assets, including key messaging, look and feel, and data and content libraries, ensuring that brand content is accurate, engaging, and consistent across all channels and collateral materials.
    • Supervise Events and Communications Coordinator, including oversight of events calendar, social media, and marketing materials.
    • Overseeing outside vendors for marketing services including but not limited to web design, e-commerce design, Google ad/ad grants management, PR services, Product design
    • Build and maintain an online audience through lead generation campaigns, segmenting lists, and maintaining integrations with salesforce.
    • Track, evaluate, and report the ROI of various marketing activities.

Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in marketing, advertising, communications, or public relations. Experience in development/marketing in a nonprofit organization is a substantial plus.
    • Excellent writing skills. Must be able to write engaging and creative content that highlights impact and clients' stories with dignity and respect.
    • Experience with WordPress, Mailchimp, Google Ads, Facebook Ads Manager, Shopify, or similar platforms is required.
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite is preferred, and ability to learn other software as needed.
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
    • Supervisory experience—including vendors and direct reports—required
    • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
    • Experience using an asset framing marketing that defines people by their aspirations and contributions instead of deficits or despair.
    • And (most important), a passion for highlighting the experiences, stories, and aspirations of Kitchens for Good’s apprentices working to build better futures for themselves and their families through KFG’s programs.

Additional Skills

    • Strong understanding of brand management and its importance.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to work diligently and efficiently, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a busy, fast-paced environment.
    • A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills
    • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
    • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
    • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
