POSITION PROFILE:

The Community Organizer is responsible for the development and ongoing support to the Elevate Youth Program efforts in City of San Diego.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement restorative talking circles focused on justice-involved youth and youth who are experiencing homelessness
  • Develop and conduct credible messenger training for partners and young adult leaders
  • Serve as a mentor for youth who are justice involved or youth who have experienced homelessness
  • Develop and implement community safety and ATOD prevention activities
  • Establish and promote community participation in leadership, ownership and decision-making regarding community priorities and project activities
  • Provide data for outcome monitoring systems, and statistical records to keep track of all reported issues and their resolution and monitor community-level indicators
  • Support administrative duties, such as scheduling, data entry and light case management
  • Prepare and deliver written and oral reports as requested

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications):

  • Experience in Credible Messenger program and implementing restorative circles
  • Experience in community organizing, leading meetings, and event planning
  • Experience with and respect for diverse cultures, demonstrated effectiveness in working within a collaborative environment, and experience in public speaking and presentation
  • Experience with crime prevention strategies, alcohol, tobacco and drug issues, and community development
  • Experience in working with City Government/City Departments
  • Have a driving record that complies with SAY Driving Policies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Broad knowledge of diverse cultures and sensitivity in dealing with diversity issues
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team-oriented atmosphere
  • Ability to work independently and take significant initiative
