BLCI prepares students to be the first in their families to enroll and succeed in college with the expectation that they use their education to improve their communities.

Barrio Logan College Institute (BLCI) was named the 2016 Example of Excelencia out of 200+ organizations nationwide.

BLCI seeks an individual that is committed to closing the educational achievement gap, creating change in education and interested in expanding BLCI’s impact. BLCI offers their employees an opportunity to impact policy, families, and a large community through education. Working at BLCI is an opportunity to influence our organizational growth and be part of a movement.

The Volunteer and Internship Coordinator is responsible for managing BLCI’s growing volunteer base and providing them with the best experience possible. The Volunteer/Internship Coordinator is also responsible for working with BLCI alumni to recruit, train, and place them in internship opportunities that will increase their chances of being competitive applicants to postbaccalaureate jobs in their field of study. The incumbent will work closely with BLCI staff meeting the needs of the team, the students, the parents and the community we serve. The person we seek balances positive relationships with competing priorities, sets and follows through with goals, motivates staff, volunteers, and students to pursue excellence, communicates clearly and effectively, builds rapport with community members, partners, donors, students and families from underserved communities, and serves as a positive role model.

Organizational Background: Barrio Logan College Institute (BLCI) is a community-based out of- school-time program that promotes a college-going culture for disadvantaged families through tutoring, enrichment activities, field trips, academic advising, case management, and parent engagement activities. Our families come first and we are committed to helping them and their children succeed as long as they are committed to our programs. Our programs start in 3rd grade and continue until students graduate from college. Parent participation is a requirement. The vast majority of our families are Latino and Spanish speaking. All of our students are of the first generation in their families to go to college and most are low-income.

Job Purpose: To maintain BLCI’s volunteer and internship program, and be committed to finding ways for interested community members to make a meaningful impact on advancing the mission of the organization.
